GolfBuddy Voice GPS Q&A:

Is the device wearable?

The GolfBuddy Voice is a wearable GPS unit, but you also have to note the convenient benefit of easily keeping the one ounce device in your pocket.

It comes with a multi-functional clip that you can attach pretty much anywhere on your person; conveniently, to the brim of your hat, the hem of your shirt or sleeve, and even to your belt.

Another nice option is, separately purchasing the wristband that’s available in white, orange, and black. The wristband accessory earns this device two thumbs up since it can be used as a stand alone unit or it can double as a watch. If you’re wondering – it does have a built-in clock too.

How is the voice feature a convenient benefit?

Do you wear glasses that you constantly need to put on or take off to comfortably see through a viewfinder? Do you find the scratches on the lens distracting? Is it a pain to pull out and stow away a laser unit?

An audio GPS presents many benefits to your golf game, the most obvious being, its voice readout ability. Its compact size and advantage for it to be attached almost anywhere on you makes it one of the most unobtrusive golf distance finders yet.

And best of all, it gives you the convenience to play an entire game without having to look at it even once. Want the distance? Simply press and listen. With Auto Course Recognition and Auto Hole Advance features, you can clip onto your cap, press, and swing.

Can this device speak in any other language?

The GolfBuddy Voice is a multi-lingual device. It can be set for the English, German, and Italian; French, Spanish, and Japanese; Chinese and Korean languages.

The vocals are what you would expect for a computer-generated, female voice. Perhaps, a sister to Siri? (Apple users should get this bad joke).

Is it loud enough to hear or will it be too loud and disruptive to other players?

No audio golf GPS would ever be complete without being able to set some sound preferences. The unit comes with five buttons, two of which are dedicated to volume control.

Most users find they’re quite comfortable with the volume settings set at half way. At that setting, it should be loud enough for you to hear without your play mates even noticing. They’d probably forget that you have someone in your ear the entire game.

On the other hand, you do have the option to turn off the voice feature and just read the distance on the 1″ LCD display screen; but then again, isn’t that the whole point of this nifty gadget?

Is the Voice a touchless device?

It can be! To use it as a touchless device, it means you’ll have to disable the voice feature. Don’t fret! Even if you’re not using the audio settings, the Auto Hole Advance feature provides the distance, unprompted, on the LCD screen and updates as you walk the course and go from tee to tee.

The distance to the pin; that’s essentially all you need, right? No more finger action here!

With the voice feature activated, it’s still an extremely easy and intuitive device to use. There’s minimal fiddling around with it since it only takes one press to get the spoken distance.

You don’t even need to exert any unnecessary neck movement to look at it. Can it get any simpler than that? I’ve got my money on “no”.

Our Verdict on the Golf Buddy Voice

To ping up the strokes, the GolfBuddy Voice GPS device is a reliable unit for a couple of years. After that, you might have to replace it for a new one. However, it’s so cheap that it really shouldn’t be an issue.

The Golf Buddy CT2 is another GPS device that’s worth the price jump. It has a longer battery life, can track your scores, and it’s even submersible under water, although, we don’t recommend testing this just for fun.

The Bushnell Neo Ghost rivals the Voice GPS. It’s in the same price range, it’s wearable, and it has a backlight. But, don’t expect it to talk to you. This might be a perk if you already get enough back-talk at home!

One thing that Golf Buddy knows is GPS. Leave it to them to get exact distance readings for you!
