Bushnell NEO GPS Golf Watch Q&A:
The first and the most obvious upside to wearing the GPS watch is that… you’re wearing it. You’re not going to forget it in a cart cup-holder and it won’t get left in the bottom of your golf bag.
Since it’s on your person, it’ll go where you go. This is especially helpful for when you get home after hitting the course. Unlike most other handheld GPS devices that get left and forgotten in the bottom of your golf bag, you’re going to take the rangefinder watch inside whether you intentionally remember to or not.
When you’re ready to remove the watch, you’re way more likely to remember to charge it. Voila! You have an up and ready device for your next game.
The GPS watch is visibly smaller and lighter than a laser rangefinder with a display area of 23mm x 23mm and weighing only a mere 1.8 oz. It’s also a smaller and more light-weight watch than other GPS watches available.
It’s quite comfortable to wear all day and sports a trendy design. But the unmistakable benefit of its size and portability is that you only need to raise your arm, press button, and read distance to use it.
There’s no dealing with cases, pulling out of pockets, or stowing away every time you move to the next hole. It’s as easy as one single motion of the arm.
Lucky for you, it can double as a regular watch. Turning it to watch mode will reduce its battery sucking ability to barely anything at all. Plus, it’s pretty sporty looking that you could easily get away with using it as a watch while you’re off the course.
You just took a shower and you forgot to take the golf watch off. You’re now googling and praying that your new gadget will survive the down pour unscathed. Good news, it’s fully waterproof! Since it “weathered” the shower, pun intended, you’ll know the rain will be no match.
The NEO GPS watch has an awesome automatic shut off feature which is extremely valuable since the GPS part is a battery sucking force. To prevent forgetting to turn off the GPS feature and unnecessarily wasting your battery power, you can set it to return to “watch mode” after a customizable set amount of time.
In case your golf game is taking longer than you thought, the golf GPS watch will confirm switching back to watch mode before doing so to prevent you from having to start the course all over again.
The NEO XS GPS Watch comes pre-loaded with over 30,000 courses from around the globe. But, updating and using the golf database is another story.
Syncing updated courses can be done online, via the provided USB cord, through iGolf which is Bushnell’s database provider.
Sounds simple enough right? A couple of downsides of this entire process is a few glitches that really should be improved. According to users of the iGolf website, it’s not as user-friendly as it should be.
You can only download one course file at a time, and there is no category listing to be able to sync courses by region.
It’s super easy to start your game by selecting the Play Golf feature. The GPS kicks in to find the course you’re at and you can select it to confirm it’s the right one. It then automatically provides you the distance from hole to hole.
Although this automatic feature can’t be turned off, you can toggle between the holes to make sure you’re at the right one just in case there’s a glitch.
This watch comes with a USB cable that plugs right into a computer to charge. It’s quite appropriate since you can also update any courses you need to at the same time. The only downside is, there should be the option to use a wall charger to recharge the watch for those times you don’t have your laptop handy.
If Bushnell Golf could make one for the watch, they’d be the first. Bushnell says that you can get about 16 hours of playing time from one full charge. But, that’s determined by various features that are unique to your playing style, the course, and how efficient you are at using the GPS automatic shut off feature.
While the watch can measure your hit by selecting the Golf feature, it does lack the ability to track and score your hits. Perhaps Bushnell in the future could innovate this savvy technology to include statistical information with club selection recommendations too.

Our Verdict on the Neo XS
To ping up the strokes, the Neo XS is a decent distance finder, but you can’t replace the battery without sending it to Bushnell. For the price, you’re getting what you pay for, but it’s a very slim and lightweight watch that you’ll forget you’re wearing it.
However, only a small price tag above this is Bushnell’s new Neo Ion golf watch. It offers more courses, better accuracy, and a redesigned charging clip.
Outside of the Bushnell bundle is the Garmin Approach S4 Watch. It’s within the same budget, although, it offers a lot more as far as features. It’s also a touch screen, and you don’t have to pay for download fees ever!
Bushnell is a well-reputed brand when it comes to optics, and so far, they haven’t disappointed when it comes to dabbling in the GPS field.
