Bushnell NEO Ghost GPS Q&A:

Is the device wearable?

The NEO Ghost golf rangefinder can easily be stowed in a pocket or worn if you prefer. Although it doesn’t sport the watch design, it comes with a multi-functional clip that can be attached to your belt. Ta da! Instantly wearable.

You could also attach it to your golf bag if you wanted, but it’s so small and easy to stow away in the front pocket of your polo or your slacks.

How big is the Ghost?

The device’s dimensions are 2.2 x 2.2 x 0.6 inches in size. Its large screen is about 1.37 x 1.37 inches. For such a small device, the screen is pleasantly large enough to view the appropriate font clearly within the square display.

Are there other colors available?

Yes, there’s quite the color palette available with this golf GPS device.

The Ghost comes in black, charcoal, green, orange and white. If you’re going to be stowing it in a golf cart cup-holder or maybe in a dark colored case, you might want to pick one of the more stand-out colors such as the white or the green. That way it won’t blend in with its surroundings and you’re more likely to lose or misplace it.

Can the Ghost detect hazard distances?

This device can provide hazard distances for up to 4 per hole. Just because you have the distance to the flag, doesn’t mean you shouldn’t know what stands in your way. With knowing these hazard distances, you can adjust for swing and the right club to ensure you make your shot.

Does the NEO Ghost have a backlight?

The device conveniently has a backlight feature that is activated for 10 seconds after the last button has been pressed.

Although this is extremely beneficial when the lighting conditions start to change on you, you can’t change the amount of time the backlight stays on.

Strangely, like the NEO XS golf watch, the backlight is disabled when you activate Play Golf mode. So, it’s really only usable if you don’t want to play golf. But then again, who’s really playing the green in the dark right?

Can it be put into the attachable clip any which way?

Unfortunately this Bushnell golf GPS needs to be inserted into the multi-functional clip the right way so that the buttons are exposed and still accessible for use.

Although it may seem like this isn’t a big deal, it eliminates the possibility of having it sit upside down on your belt. Oh did you want to look down at your belt and easily use from there without detaching? Sounds like a good idea right? Sorry, not an option.

Perhaps a screen auto-rotate feature could change this and make it more versatile?

Can the screen auto-rotate?

No. The Ghost is made for one direction only. This can be a con since an auto-rotate feature would be nice so you wouldn’t have to worry about getting it the right way every time you pull it out of your pocket.

With touch screen and additional bells and whistles that technology can easily cater to these days, auto-rotate for this small, hand-held device would be a bonus feature if it had it.

Noteworthy Features:

  • Provides distances of hazards up to 4 per hole
  • Auto Course Recognition for easy course selection
  • Intuitive Auto Hole Advance
  • Wearable with the multi-functional clip that’s included
  • USB charging/syncing cable included
  • No membership or fees required for purchase or use
  • Intuitive 6 button device
  • Additional colors available: Black, Charcoal, White, Green
  • Built-in backlight available

Our Verdict

To ping up the strokes, the Bushnell NEO Ghost is a nifty, little device that can out-perform many laser rangefinders, if the weather is on your side. However, after a few months, it might get stuck on “searching” if the weather is less than ideal.

But, that’s not all that Bushnell has to offer. They also have the brand new Excel Series Golf Watch that’s loaded with apps and advanced GPS technology. It might be out of your price range, but it’s worth every penny.

The GolfBuddy Voice offers tight competition against the Bushnell NEO Ghost. It’s right within the same budget, and it even talks to you! You won’t even have to give your device a glance.

However, Bushnell is known for quality products for a great price. If you’re willing to stay loyal to the brand, the Ghost will be your unseen partner on the green!
